Music Festival; New Folk – Old Folk at Fisher Hall

May 2 - May 5

New Folk ~ Old Folk May 2-5 2024  –  Here’s the skinny, Festivarians!

Rice Harrington was the Counselor of Cabin 10 at Camp Flaming Arrow in Hunt, Texas way back when three of the original board members of what was to become Cabin 10, Inc. were young students of each other’s company. Fortunately, he was in our midst. Rice died at the young age of 50 in July of 2003. Being the patron saint of giving more than you take, we found a way to keep his spirit alive by creating Cabin 10, Inc. and hosting this music festival which started out as the Rice Festival and has morphed into New Folk ~ Old Folk. The name has changed but our mission has stayed the same… “Supporting the arts through the gifting of scholarships”. As Rice taught us, we take only the satisfaction of helping others while having a great time doing it.

So, buy your wristband and come out Thursday night, set up camp and enjoy an informal evening of music and camaraderie. The Hillsiders will absolutely wow you for 90 minutes of acoustic virtuosity. Then grab your instrument and participate in an open song circle in the campground tent. Impromptu picking and grinning shall ensue well into the wee hours.

Friday and Saturday, enjoy the morning at camp Solis with your own food and beverages or with coffee and breakfast from our food vendors next to Fischer Hall.

Music Underwriters

Your wristband entitles you to 3 nights camping at Camp Solis and admission to Fischer Hall to enjoy the music. Fischer Hall opens at 11am Friday morning for you to check-in and place your reserved seating. This will be your seat location for all the music, for both Friday and Saturday. The hall opens at 11:30 on Saturday morning.

Please Note: Personal chairs are allowed but must be placed behind the pre-arranged seating. If you are a Music Underwriter and prefer to use your personal chair, this applies to you as well. No Recliners or
high back chairs are allowed.

General Admission

Your wristband entitles you to 3 nights camping at Camp Solis and admission to Fischer Hall to enjoy the music.

Fischer Hall opens at 11:30 for you on Friday morning and at 11:00 Saturday morning.

Our policy on general admission seating is that an unoccupied seat is available for you to sit in unless it is a Cabin 10 VIP Music Underwriter’s chair. When you find a seat you like, you may leave a blanket or
personal cushion on that seat. Feel fee to get up periodically to use the restroom, grab some refreshments, or stretch your legs. If someone has occupied your seat while you were away, please wait until a song break before reclaiming your seat. Vice versa, if you sit in a “lived-in seat”, be prepared to move when asked between songs. Let’s keep it civil folks. We anticipate a sold-out hall, but we will not oversell the allotted seating, and any seat in Fischer Hall is a good seat.

Please Note: Personal chairs are allowed but must be placed behind the pre-arranged seating.

No recliners or high back chairs are allowed.

It’s Rain or Shine – so bring appropriate gear.

Your wristband entitles you to 3 nights camping at Camp Solis and admission to the Fischer Hall grounds only.

Yardbirds spend the day listening to the entire line-up of music from the comfort of your own folding chair set up outside the hall looking in through the large windows of the hall.

All ticket holders (including Yardbirds) are welcome to take part in our Silent Auction inside the auction barn. You need not be present to win the items you bid on. If you end up with the winning bid and are not present, we will contact you.

Our food vendors will be there to serve you all day. Naturally we prefer that you patronize our onsite food vendors, however if you have special needs, you are welcome to bring your own food. However, no beverages will be allowed on the grounds of Fischer Hall. Beverages (beer, wine, sodas, tea, and water) will be available via beverage tickets sold on site at Keller’s Canteen. You will not be over served.

  • It has always been Cabin 10’s policy that, although we love dogs, no dogs are allowed within Fischer Hall. We prefer that no dogs are brought to the festival at all, but if you must bring your dogs, we ask that they are kept on a leash no longer than 6’, at all times. Pets should not be left unattended in the campground or in your car. Please prevent excessive barking and properly dispose of pet waste. If anyone brings a dog and does not abide by these rules, you will be asked to leave without a refund of your ticket.  It is especially important in the campgrounds that no dogs run free due to the owner having a corral of donkeys.
  • We will have a section of the campground for campers that have the need for generators. Generator use is prohibited from midnight to 8 am. Generator use and battery charging by engine idling is prohibited in regular camping areas.
  • No open ground fires are permitted. Campfires are only allowed in contained (above ground) metal fire pits. Portable stoves are allowed.
  • Beverages including beer, wine, sodas, tea and water will be sold at Fischer Hall. We have acquired the necessary TABC temporary permit. Therefore, please keep any beverages you brought for camping in the campground. No beverages will be allowed to across Fischer Store Rd. onto the grounds of Fischer Hall.
  • Food vendors will be onsite to provide scrumptious food throughout the day, but if you prefer to pack your own food in, that’s okay… just no beverages please.
  • John Imperial will also be on hand serving up your coffee bean desires.

Please remember that a lot of the fun and good music will happen Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights in the campgrounds after the scheduled music ends.  We encourage you to bring your acoustic instruments with you to partake in the song circles.  All ticket holders (including Yardbirds) are welcome.  No one will be admitted to the campgrounds without a wristband.

Once again, thank you for your patronage and we look forward to seeing you this year and many years to come. We have settled in on the first weekend of May each year for New Folk ~ Old Folk.
